Oslochurch gathered yesterday for Worship and the Word, and the focus was again on the purpose of life.
Thomas Carlyle said: «The man without a purpose is like a ship without a rudder a waif, a nothing, a no man».Pastors Aina & Jan-Aage asked: -What drives your life?
The answer came from Ecclesiastes 4:4 (The Living Bible) which says: «I observed that the basic motive for success is the driving force of envy and jealousy!» They asked probing questions about what motivates our choices: Guilt, shame, inferiority, arrogance, revenge....
-These questions must be clarified in our lives, they said. -Otherwise we will never experience the satisfaction of fulfilling our God-given destiny, quoting Thomas Carlyle: «The man without a purpose is like a ship without a rudder, a waif, a nothing, a no man».
Aina & Jan-Aage underscored that we live for eternity: We are made to last forever. Ecclesiastes 3:11 (The Living Testament) states that «God has….planted eternity in the human heart». They quoted Abraham Lincoln who said: «Surely God would not have created such a being as man to exist only for a day! No, no, man was made for immortality!»
-It really puts into perspective to know that our lives do not end here on earth. What we choose in our earth life impacts eternity!
